REBRANDING …

Telling our story, building our business, living our passion.

In a world completely saturated with small businesses, it’s so important to stand out. No matter how many people are doing what we are doing, no one is us. People don’t always buy what you are doing many times they buy why you do it. So if done correctly, our brand should make you feel something and be completely unique and a direct reflection of us.

As with naming our company we felt the right brand needed to also be engaging and not just with random design elements but elements that make you feel something – a mark that becomes the overall vibe of our company’s entire image. We wanted our brand to be engaging from the minute we introduced ourselves and handed out a business card.

Our old logo served us well for several years but it was time for a change when Jerry joined the company. We knew we didn’t want to “throw the whole thing out with the dishwater”, so we began the process of refining our logo. We kept the same font that we’ve grown to love, updated the color palette by bring in a neutral color as the primary color and making the same orange Pantone the accent color. We removed the decorative flourishes and combined our contact information.

Our goal has always been to use sustainable products whenever possible instead of new materials. It’s our way of creating something new out of old. Because of this passion we knew we wanted to continue using materials that would normally be thrown out to create our hand-stamped business cards but we wanted something a little more iconic for marking our company name. We believe in prioritizing the focal points and we knew the uniqueness of our name deserved a unique process and that’s when the idea of a custom branding iron fell right into place. Keeping consistent with the red rubber stamp only to redesign how we communicated our contact information by combining our names as Jerry + Vicki Newsom.

You may be wondering how this relates to you, our customers … it’s simply to demonstrate that our brand is built from a solid foundation.  This is where we start with you too, getting to you, your story, your personalities.  We start with your foundation, your story, and build from there.

WHAT’S IN A NAME …

The art of naming a business

Choosing a name may not have seemed like the biggest challenge we would face, but it was. When we began talking about naming our company we knew instantly that we didn’t want anything to do with our personal names or to choose a name on a whim so we carefully planned and selected our company name with a purpose – we felt the right name needed to be engaging and become a staple of our company’s entire image.

We started with a blank slate and decided to choose something broad and maybe even a little abstract. We wanted a name that didn’t immediately indicate what the company actually does but rather a name that engaged conversation. So we began with a list of about 40 words, some were single words and some were two or three word phrases. We chose words that we felt created emotion when saying them out loud. From there we submitted our list to a focus group. We gave the group a short descriptive of what our company will be doing and asked if they would share what words triggered a feeling – we took it one step further by asking them to combine two or three relevant words that made them feel happy. It was crazy because over a third of the group combined ORANGE and SEPTEMBER so that’s what we chose and it just felt right from the beginning. After agreeing on ORANGE SEPTEMBER we went back to the same group and asked if they would help us create our tagline, a catchphrase to identify our company.

Bam … there you have it!

This is how we came up with our name, ORANGE SEPTEMBER an event company, and it does exactly what we want it to do – engage in conversation because people are always asking us how we came up with our name.

OR.ANGE [áwrǝnj]  Orange is a power color. It stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. Orange means vitality with endurance. People who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere.

Color adds tremendous meaning to communications. The color orange radiates warmth and energy, and stimulates the senses. It’s a gregarious, fun-loving hue that communicates whimsy, childlike, happy, glowing, sunset, hot, energizing, active, friendly, good-natured, expansive, spontaneous, optimistic, communicative, jovial, sociable, self-assured, persuasive, animated.

How the color orange affects us physically: it stimulates activity, appetite and encourages socialization.

HERE WE ARE ...

Writing our first blog post ever and it feels just like a first date!

First dates can be full of mutual awesomeness, a sense of authenticity, a feeling of mystery, the feeling of butterflies fluttering around in your stomach and the start of something beautiful. However, they are often awkward, nerve-wracking and even downright disastrous! EEK!!!!

While writing this first post I am feeling everything described above … my heart is pounding and I’m feeling very anxious. I’m afraid of writing silly words, too many words or simply unless words. But above that, I’m feeling very excited to share what we do and we hope you take a genuine, honest interest in what we have to say, as if you were catching up with a good friend. We hope to leave you with a desire to know more about what we do, a feeling like being hooked on your favorite network series and you just can’t wait for the next post.

Today opens a new chapter. We welcome you to Orange September an event company’s new blog, our tiny corner of journaling our journey in the creative marketplace of wedding’s and social event’s of all types. A place we hope to be creative (in or outside of the box), grow, inspire and hopefully teach just a little by sharing our journey. Thank you for joining us.
